I learned about 'the collective consciousness' back in the '80's. I would like to tell you a quick story. A friend of mine and I decided that we wanted to design a line of casual clothing with a 'mix and match' ability. Our goal was simple designs, each top would work with any of the slacks, skirts, shorts, etc.. All of the colors were compatible with each other. Hence - Mix and Match. We were both professional people, I was a territory manager and she was a buyer for a MAJOR department store in the Southeast. We set about this new endeavor like true professionals. Design of the line, locating and interviewing suppliers, lining up equipment vendors and investigating the available labor pool. We made samples and gave them to our friends to try out and give us feedback. They LOVED it. After months of planning, we happened to go to our local mall for lunch. We had seen the signs "Coming Soon" plastered all over a wooden barricade at one of the retail areas before. Well they had their grand opening going on. We both stopped dead in our tracks. Staring back at us was our dream. It was a store called Units, don't know if you remember them or not, but I always will. We didn't know whether to laugh or cry. It was all of our designs to a "T". Ever since that day, when I'm brainstorming, I wear an aluminum foil hat so that people can not read my mind, you know like the one in the movie about the extraterrestrial? Well, just kidding, sorta.
